With the recent update to Apple's Powerbook line of computers, one of the neat new tricks Apple's portables can do is two-fingered trackpad scrolling. With this technology, you can use two fingers instead of one to drag across a trackpad. When you do so, OS X knows to scroll up, down, left or right (depending on which direction you drag your fingers.
Interestingly, the hardware technology required for this new feature is installed in some of the pre-2005 Powerbooks and iBooks, and thus these models can take advantage of the new two-finger scrolling as well. In order to do so, however, you'll need a software hack (Google cached). The hack requires terminal editing.
For the less adventurous who still want their trackpads to do some cool stuff, you may want to check out the shareware program called SideTrack, which can add scrolling areas to the outer edges of the trackpad area, as well as other features. SideTrack is $15 shareware.
